In August 2020, The Ala Moana Hotel by Mantra celebrated 50 years in business by commissioning InForm Design to contemporize the hotel’s public areas including the lobby and pool deck. In recognition of that effort, Hawai‘i Magazine awarded InForm Design’s tropical modern revamp with the 2021 Reader’s Choice Award in Best Newly Refreshed Hotel – All Islands.

Guests are welcomed by the warm vaulted glow of the chandelier before being drawn to the 60-foot-long mural behind reception pods made of custom wood and stone. The paneled mural by Kamea Hadar exhibits the vibrant diversity of vegetation found from mauka to makai in the Hawaiian Islands. The mix of colors and fauna serves as a nod to the diversity of cultures within and beyond the hotel walls.

After a long day of shopping at Ala Moana Center, the next stop is simple: the pool. The pool is a great place to snag a daybed or chaise lounge to catch the sunset. In the evening, guests can enjoy drinks by the fire pit tables and lounge on the sofas while talking story about an unforgettable vacation (or staycation!)

In their decades of service, the Ala Moana Hotel has been the convenient go-to for kamaʻāina and visitors alike. The new renovation stylizes their tropical mid-century modern appearance into a timeless design.
