InForm Design. Built on Purpose. Designed to Last.

In 2002, Ann Kutaka and John Harada found themselves each working in stagnant Architecture firms. Having both grown up dreaming of designing magnificent spaces, they decided to team up and make their dreams a reality.

They wanted their firm to be different, one that truly values the Client’s input, keeps them updated throughout the project, and that innovates to create beautiful, forward-thinking designs.

This was the beginning of In+Form Design, Inc. The firm name is a play on words, reflective of the company’s foundational values.

• Informed projects based on an understanding of Client goals
• Informed Clients, every step of the way
• Informed designs – based on innovative design trends
• In form – a play on architecture

In the early days, the company was just 3 members working out of Ann’s apartment in Chinatown. The firm found early success designing retail locations in Waikiki and Ala Moana. The firm was small, nimble, and able to turn projects around quickly and cost-effectively.

Eventually, Ann decided it was time to separate her home and office spaces, and the firm opened their first office in the Ala Moana Building on the mezzanine floor. There were no ocean views, but it was a big step for the up-and-coming firm.

InForm Design started punching above its weight and going after larger projects and more notable clients. The first one to land was the iconic brand, Louis Vuitton, in 2004. InForm Design provided architectural services for their three Hawaii Flagship Locations, including Waikiki, Ala Moana Center, and Maui. The successful partnership put InForm Design on the map as a notable Hawaii-based firm capable of supporting large clients.

Prior to 2008, the firm decided to diversify its clientele and began working on projects for the State of Hawaii and City and County of Honolulu. Projects ranged from Schools and Educational Institutions to Agency Buildings. The firm weathered the financial downturn and grew more resilient as a result.

In 2017, the firm continued to expand its services with the addition of an Interior Design Department. This coincided with a company-wide rebrand and ushered the firm into a new age design thinking.

Now in the age of A.I., InForm Design continues to adapt and innovate to provide a wider range of services in a more effective manner for its clients than ever before. Project types have expanded into industries and sectors, including Hospitality, Offices and Office Buildings, Financial Institutions, Luxury Residences, Industrial Properties, Restaurants, and more.
